In High Cotton
In High Cotton
handmade paper, silk thread
2010

I have always been interested in the phrase "in high cotton" and the ways we talk about good fortune and the circumstances that may have led to a profitable or favorable situation for one but also considering the hardships and circumstances of those who may not benefit from the profits of their labor. Here the single red line of silk thread reflects on the general meaning of the phrase as being happy or content in contrast with obvious hardships involved with the actual work of picking cotton by hand.
