In High Cotton
2010
I have always been interested in the phrase "in high cotton" and the ways we talk about good fortune and the circumstances that may have led to a profitable or favorable situation. Here the single red line of silk thread represents chafed and bloody hands that occur from hand-picking cotton and is a reflection on the general meaning of the phrase as being happy or content in contrast with obvious hardships involved with the actual work of picking cotton by hand.
